Amarillo Police Detectives are looking for witnesses of an attempted carjacking in April 9th at the Toot 'N Totum at 2024 South Washington.

There were two or three people who witnesses the incident and police want to discuss the case with them.  The store's security cameras show people in the parking lot standing around, possibly watching the attempted carjackings.

A white female resident told officers that as she was putting gas into her black Toyota when a man approached her and asked for a ride.  She refused and the man approached other people looking for a ride from them.

He then approached the first woman again as told her he was going to take her car.  She was able to seek shelter in the store, with her keys.  The man then tried to take another car but the door was locked.  The suspect eventually fled toward Wolflin Avenue.

Responding officers were able to locate the suspect with the help of canine units.  The suspect is identified as Barry Don Baird, 41 of Amarillo.  He was booked into Potter County.
