With the pandemic taking out attending live baseball games last year, you may or may not need a bit of a refresher on some of the terms you'll hear fans and players alike using. Well good news, you resident baseball freak is here to remind you what some of those pesky little terms mean. Ready? Here we go:

Twist it

This is just a fancy term for turning a double play. You'll hear the fielders communicating with each other when the double play is in order and most of the time you'll hear the words "twist it". I'm also the fan in the stands that uses the term as well.

Round tripper

Another term for "home run". Pretty self explanatory here as when a home run is hit, a player makes a "round trip" around the bases on his way back to the dugout.

Bringing the heat

This is typically in reference to a pitcher who is throwing pretty hard. Normally anything above 97-98 miles per hour will illicit this response from fans, players and broadcasters alike.

Can of corn

So this is an older term that still gets used here and there, but the look on people's faces when they hear someone mention it is classic. A can of corn is simply an easy fly ball that the player barely even has to move for. He can essentially stand in one place, stick his glove up and record the out.

So there you have it, just a few baseball terms to get you back in the swing of things for Sod Poodles baseball. Now, when is $1 beer night?
