Will Amarillo, Texas Get A Six Flags Theme Park?
It's a long shot but this Amarillo woman is trying to rally for something huge in Amarillo.
A petition has surfaced on Facebook asking for support behind bringing either a Six Flags or Universal Studios theme park to Amarillo. In the petition, she makes a case for Amarillo being a good spot for a theme park to be built due to its proximity to I-40 and Palo Duro Canyo and its large population.
Later she states that Amarillo could use the revenue that would come from a theme park and overall, Amarillo just needs a nearby theme park because most large theme parks are too far from the area.
To be completely honest I would love to have another tourist attraction in the form of a theme park in Amarillo as would most of us. But sadly we do have to be a bit realistic here.
As pointed out by some commenters on her post, the amount of trouble that Amarillo went through just to get the Sod Poodles stadium would likely make an even larger project like Universal Studios or Six Flags extremely difficult to get off the ground unless it was funded exclusively by a private organization, which would prove to be an extremely expensive endeavor.
The petition has already received 79 signatures and it is actually pretty close to reaching its 100-signature goal. Sadly the chances that it will take for this petition to truly influence the development of a theme park in Amarillo are very slim. But as they say, "Never say never".
Who knows, maybe this could catch the attention of the right person and gain some traction. And to be honest, I'm all for it, having another theme park to give Wonderland a run for its money would be a win for Amarillo. While we might not see something like this is the near future, considering the growth we've seen in Amarillo it's not impossible to see something like this to be built in the far future of Amarillo.
