At one point in time, you knew where you could get gelato in Amarillo and it was on 6th street. More specifically, it was at Cowboy Gelato on 6th Street where you can get some pretty good gelato.

But sadly Cowboy Gelato is no more and it has left Amarillo in a gelato deficit since its closing in 2018, or so it seems.

Although there are no ice cream places in Amarillo that specialize in serving gelato, I decided to look around and make an attempt at finding places that have gelato on their menus.

The Saddening Revelation.

I could only find three locations in Amarillo that have gelato on their menus, those being the Big Texan, Pizzaria Nomad, and Coffee and Sweets at Westgate Mall

I mean, what kind of city only has three places to get your frozen dessert fix?

Sure, we have the Big Texan, Pizzeria Nomad, and Sweets and Treats, but none of them really hit the spot for me. The Big Texan is great if you're in the mood for a steak, but their gelato just doesn't hit the spot. Pizzeria Nomad is a decent option, but their flavors are limited and honestly, I feel like their focus is more on the pizza than the gelato.

And Sweets and Treats. Well, theirs is actually pretty okay.

I just don't understand why we can't have more options. It's not like we're a small town in the middle of nowhere. We're a decent-sized city with plenty of people who would appreciate a good gelato shop.

I'm not saying we need a gelato shop on every corner, but is it too much to ask for a couple more options? Maybe someplace with unique flavors and toppings that we can't find anywhere else?

Until then, I'll just have to settle for what we have.
