I recently had to make a quick trip to Fort Worth. When I got there, I couldn't believe my eyes when trying to get a ride. The price to book an Uber and a Lyft ride was insane.

Over $100 For A One-Way Trip

I took a flight to Lovefield in Dallas. I thought I could save a few bucks that way. My flight wound up not costing me a dime, so I would only be out the cost of getting a ride once I landed.

With the price of gas the way it is, it seemed like the better option.

When the plane touched down, I quickly pulled out my phone and got to work looking for an Uber. The price of a ride made my jaw drop.

It was over one hundred dollars for a single ride.

Why Was It So Expensive To Use A Ride Share App?

I checked Uber and Lyft to see if there was any difference in the price.

Both apps alerted me to the fact that I was trying to book a ride during a busy time, so it would be more expensive. Both were over one hundred dollars, and the price just kept going up every time I refreshed the app.

I understand booking a ride during peak hours makes them more expensive. It's the law of supply and demand.

However, six months ago I booked the same ride and it cost about fifty bucks. I even double checked my ride history to make sure.

Second Guessing Taking Any Trips For A While

Part of the culprit is the price of gas. I did some digging to see what had changed since the last time I booked a ride. It turns out that Uber and Lyft both have upped the price of a ride due to rising costs of fuel. It isn't much, but it does add to the bill.

The price of gas and the time I needed my ride is what caused the insane bill.

In our area, we're fortunate to still be under $4 a gallon for gas. The national average is at $4.599 as I'm writing this.

I'm second guessing taking any big trips for a while. I was hoping to be in OKC in a few weeks, but that might be put on hold.

Traveling, no matter how you do it, is expensive right now.
