Dog The Bounty Hunter and Pampa, Texas
The connection between the Texas panhandle town of Pampa and Dog the Bounty Hunter goes back to the '70s. This is way before Duane was the praying bounty hunter from Hawaii that we know and love today. Back then he was better known plain ol' Duane Chapman, the troublemaker.
Who woulda thought that The Dog, at one point in time, called the Texas panhandle home. Pretty neat, if you ask me.
Dog Got Married In Pampa
Dog's first wife was La Fonda Honeycutt and she was a Pampa native.
Some accounts I found say that Dog was already married when he moved to Pampa. Others say he got married when he settled in Pampa. The important detail is that Dog was right there in Pampa in '76. That's when Dog's life changed.
Dog Did Time In Texas
Before he was on a hit TV show with Ozzy singing the theme song, Duane Chapman did time in Texas for his involvement in the murder of a Pampa man. The story is that Dog was a known ne'er do well who ran around with the Devils Disciple motorcycle club. And one night, after ignoring his wife La Fonda's warnings, he headed out to drive his buddies to a local dealer's house to buy some marijuana.
He sat outside the location in the car, but inside the house a scuffle between the dealer and Dog's buddies broke out. The dealer was killed--a drug deal gone bad. Although Dog was not the one who pulled the trigger, he was charged with Murder all the same because he was there when the man died.
He was convicted and sentenced to five years in prison.
He wouldn't stay in jail long. He was out in 18 months. That's when Dog has said he turned his life around, and he became a bounty hunter.
