When it comes to American Football news around this time of year chances are that the Superbowl precedes all discussions surrounding the sport.
Whether you are stoked about the Chief's win or devastated about the Eagles' loss, chances are you haven't heard about this piece of news that'll make any Panhandle resident proud.
On February 9th, Pampa-born linebacker for the Miami Dolphins Zach Thomas was announced to be added to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
In the nine-man class of 2023, Thomas is now the 11th player from the Miami Dolphins to be inducted into one of the highest honors one can earn in the sport.
Born on September 1, 1973, in Pampa, Texas Zach grew up in a football-loving family and played the sport from a young age, becoming a standout player in high school in White Deer and Pampa which led to him being heavily recruited by colleges. He decided to attend Texas Tech University, where he played for four years and established himself as one of the top college linebackers in the country at the time.
After an impressive college career, Thomas entered the 1996 NFL Draft and was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the fifth round. He went on to have a prosperous professional career, earning numerous accolades and establishing himself as one of the best linebackers in NFL history.
And now he will finally be officially recognized for this on Saturday, August 5th later this year.
Regardless of whether you are a Miami Dolphins fan or not, the thought that a Hall of Fame inductee is from Pampa can be seen as an absolute win in the eyes of Panhandle residents.
