The Erwin Pawn Trade-A-Thon, Group Texts, & The Dallas Cowboys
Saturday once again belonged to The Erwin Pawn Trade-A-Thon.
It’s the show that invites you to call in and list for sale the stuff you no longer need but still has value. Squeeze out every penny by making a free listing on Trade-A-Thon next Saturday. It costs nothing to list except a little investment in time making the call.
THE BIG QUESTION
We ask all our callers a poll question before they give their listing. It both helps us to get to know them a little better and provides a theme that ties together all our calls. It’s sometimes wacky but this week we kept it topical.
Football season is in full swing with High School, College, and the NFL all finally in action. If you’ve listened to the show much you are probably aware I’m somewhat of a Dallas Cowboys fan. It got me wondering which team was tops with our callers.
Who is your favorite football team?
Dallas Cowboys 20
1 vote each for:
Green Bay Packers, Denver Broncos, Bushland Falcons, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas A&M Commerce, Texas Tech Red Raiders, White Oak Roughnecks, Brewer Bears, and the Randall Raiders.
I was a bit surprised with this week’s results. I didn’t expect the Cowboys to have that much support. Surprising Dallas was the only team to get multiple votes. I expect there was a bit of pandering to the host going on, but that never hurt anybody. I was very surprised at the lack of local high school teams mentioned. Aren’t there any Sandies out there?
RULE #6
We go over the rules of the show at the beginning of each hour. That way everyone knows how the show works and a smooth experience is enjoyed by all. Along with the five regular rules of conduct on the show, I also bring a special Rule #6. It changes every week.
Rule #6 is usually inspired by something that has happened to me over the previous week. This week I brought a rule I’ve wanted to discuss for some time but usually gets trumped for something different. Unfortunately for me, I got stuck on another group text last Wednesday and it’s time to take a stand.
Text messages are incredible to me. In the days before text messaging unimaginable time was spent making small talk for even simple calls. I figure I’ve saved 42 days since 2010 not asking or being asked about my health, job, or the weather.
There is a dark side. Group texts are monsters. Suddenly the small talk bug hits, everybody wants to be a comedian, and I’m on the receiving end of an endless chain of texts and replies I neither want nor care to read. And it isn’t like you can gracefully leave the group. Nope. You’re stuck, at the mercy of the person who started it and everybody they thought needed to hear the first message anyway. There should be a rule.
Rule #6 Group texts are evil.
See you this weekend for another Erwin Pawn Trade-A-Thon!
