If you've already received both doses of either vaccine, then the CDC has some new guidelines for you to follow and it's good news for those of you who have been patiently waiting to visit with family members!

According to the CDC, you are fully vaccinated when:

  • It's been 2 weeks after your second dose in a 2-dose series, like the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or
  • If it's been 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, like Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine

If it's been less than two weeks, you're still not fully protected and you still need to observe social distancing guidelines.

After two weeks have passed, you are fully protected and here is what the CDC says you can now do:

  • You can gather indoors with fully vaccinated people without wearing a mask.
  • You can gather indoors with unvaccinated people from one other household (for example, visiting with relatives who all live together) without masks, unless any of those people or anyone they live with has an increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19.
  • If you’ve been around someone who has COVID-19, you do not need to stay away from others or get tested unless you have symptoms.

This is great news for vaccinated grandparents who have kept their distance from their grandchildren!

However, the CDC does stress the importance of still observing social distancing guidelines while out in public to protect yourselves and others. With Texas fully opening up, it's super important to continue to continue basic safety precautions, including: wearing and keeping physical distance in public; avoiding medium- and large-sized crowds; avoiding poorly ventilated public spaces; washing hands frequently; and getting tested for Covid-19 if you feel sick.
