The Amarillo I 40 West corridor is getting crowded with hotels. Just between Soncy Road and Coulter Street you can find at last count twenty hotels all within a stone throw away.

Time to add two more, as Hyatt Place is opening off Soncy and I 40 next to the newly opened TRU by Hilton. Also opening next to Hampton Inn and Suites is Towneplace Suites by Marriott.

Both of these new hotels offer single night accommodations as well extended stay suites with full amenities, pretty much like the other twenty hotels in the neighborhood. All of these hotels offer competitive rates and the majority offer loyalty programs and incentives.

Travelers coming from east and west find Amarillo an ideal stop on the way to wherever their destination is. Back in the early 2000’s I stayed here on my way to California, and incidentally on my way back to St Louis.

With all these new hotels I was wondering how they were doing actually filling rooms. I checked a few around Soncy and I 40 this afternoon:

Hampton Inn and Suites had a four rooms left.

Extended Stay America was completely booked.

Holiday Inn was also completely booked.

Country Inn and Suites had one large suite available, this suite has a large private hot tub. (great valentine idea)

So apparently these hotels are popping up here for a reason. Demand.

Also, these hotels help our local economy with each of them employing roughly between twenty and fifty full and part time employees, not including grounds keepers and maintenance.

Bottom line, Amarillo is growing. With all the traffic passing through our area, it really is imperative to make Amarillo more than just a place to stop and sleep.
