Texas Ranks in Top 20 for Best States for Jobs
It's never been easier to find a job in Central Texas than it is right now.
Granted it might not be the job you're extremely qualified for, but if you are out of work and looking for something to get you started till the right job comes along, Central Texas is a great place to be.
There's a new report out by Wallethub that shows the unemployment rate is at 5.8% in May across the country - almost twice the record low from 2019. Getting people back to work post-pandemic is harder in some states than in others.
WalletHub looked at all 50 states on 35 key indicators of job-market strength, opportunity, and healthy economy. Plus, things like median annual income average, employment growth, commute time, and more.
Based on all that info, South Dakota finished first scoring a 66.53 out of 100. The top ten states are:
- South Dakota
- Nebraska
- Washington
- New Hampshire
- Utah
- North Dakota
- Kansas
- Vermont
- Delaware
- Colorado
As for the worst states for jobs, Kentucky finished first on that list scoring just a 38.61 out of 100, and coming in last for economic environment and in the bottom ten for job market. The top ten worst states for jobs are
- Kentucky
- West Virginia
- Pennsylvania
- Louisiana
- Hawaii
- Mississippi
- Illinois
- New Mexico
- Michigan
- Nevada
The great state of Texas finished a very respectable 19 on the list with a score of 55.19. That included 37th in job market and 3rd in economic environment.

Landing in the top 20 is great news for anyone looking to get back to work. Drive around Central Texas and you'll see lots of "Help Wanted" signs. With Gov. Abbott ending the $300 additional weekly unemployment benefit on June 26th, the time to get back to work is now.
