An American student was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in prison with hard labor in North Korea after he admitted stealing a sign in a modern day tale of "Midnight Express."
PYONGYANG, North Korea (AP) — Former NBA star Charles D. Smith says he feels remorse for coming to Pyongyang with Dennis Rodman for a game on the North Korean leader's birthday because the event has been dwarfed by politics and tainted by Rodman's own comments.
When they’re not busy eating one another, the North Koreans have a real fondness for creating trippy self-promotion videos; it's kind of their thing. Sometimes—like when they call themselves "space conquerors" after launching a satellite that broke almost immediately and tumbled out of orbit—it can be hard to take North Korea seriously. Other times—like when they threaten another test of their nuclear program at a highly delicate time for their neighbors, politically—it seems wiser to keep a close eye on them.
North Korea found itself front and center in the international community when it launched a long-range missile Friday morning, local time.
Despite the country’s reported efforts, officials in the US claim the launch failed because the rocket broke before leaving the Earth’s atmosphere.
