VICTORIA, Texas (AP) — Two flags stolen from a patriotic display in South Texas have been returned with a note of apology.

The U.S. and Marine Corps flags were taken May 28 from the Warrior's Weekend Field of Honor in Victoria. The temporary tribute with hundreds of flags honoring wounded service personnel opened May 11 and closed Sunday.

The Victoria Advocate (http://bit.ly/13Fjt9v ) reports volunteers helping with the flag pickup were leaving Monday night when organizer Col. Mike Petrash saw a grocery bag on the pavilion.

He says the bag had the two missing flags and a handwritten note saying: "Found these in my sons closet. Sorry for any pain he may have caused."

No names were included.

Petrash says he and other supporters of the exhibit had prayed for the return of the flags.
