Search Continues for 12 Missing Crewmembers from Capsized Vessel

UPDATE: We've learned through several social media posts that one of the missing crewmembers is Lafayette resident Jay Guevara.

The search is continuing this morning for the crew of a commercial vessel that capsized Tuesday off of Louisiana's coast.

According to officials, at least six of the 18 people aboard the Seacor Power were rescued.

Where did the vessel capsize?

The 129-foot lift boat, the Seacor Power, capsized in the Gulf of Mexico about eight miles from Port Fourchon.

How did the vessel capsize?

It began taking on water around 4:30 pm on Tuesday, April 13 as the area got hit by heavy thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind.

Who is heading the search?

The Coast Guard along with good Samaritans were helping with the rescue mission on Tuesday. The U.S. Coast Guard in Houston confirmed that authorities from Texas are on their way to assist in the search and rescue.

How are conditions going to be today?

More thunderstorms are expected for Wednesday according to the National Weather Service. Damaging winds in excess of 60 mph could be possible along with small hail. This could make search conditions difficult.
