The Castro County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of an explosion and fire at Southfork Dairy Farms, located 11 miles southeast of Dimmitt, Texas, around 7:00 p.m. last night. The fire crews quickly located and rescued one trapped individual who was critically injured and flown to a hospital in Lubbock. All other employees were reported safe.

Unfortunately, the fire spread to the dairy cow holding pens, resulting in an unknown number of dairy cattle being killed by the fire and smoke. The exact extent of the damage is under investigation.

Multiple first responders and agencies, including fire departments from Dimmitt, Hart, Nazareth, Tulia, Muleshoe, Springlake, and Earth, as well as sheriff's offices from Bailey County, Lamb County, and Swisher County, and the Texas State Fire Marshal Office, Texas Highway Patrol, and the Texas Department of Emergency Management, worked together to handle the emergency. EMS services from Tulia, AMR, Earth, and the UMC Multi-patient EMS ambulances provided medical assistance.

The emergency crews remained on the scene until 11 p.m., ensuring the situation was under control. The cause of the explosion and fire is under investigation, and updates on the damages and condition of the injured individual will be provided as available.
