Recent measurements have shown the Ogallala Aquifer has seen it's second worst drop since 2000.

We depend on the aquifer for irrigation and drinking water.  Unfortunately it won't last forever.  With the recent drought more water than ever before is being pumped out of the geological formation.

The 16-county area covered by the Ogallala runs from south of Lubbock to Amarillo.  Wells in this area measured a drop of 1.87 feet from 2012 to 2013.  That would make it one of the five worst drops in the water district's 60-year history.

Although the drop is bad it isn't as bad as last year when the drought of 2011 contributed to a 2.5 foot drop.
