Back in the day, the normal thing to do on a Friday or Saturday night (or both really) was an old-fashioned block party.

It really is one of my fondest memories growing up. Watching everyone open their garage doors, pull chairs out into the middle of the street or along their sidewalk and just hang out with one another.

Unfortunately, that seems to be a thing of the past these days. Rarely do we see large scale neighborhood get-togethers anymore. Whether it's people moving in and out of the neighborhood in a short amount of time, or people just not having that same love for their neighbors, most people will never experience one of the coolest things on the planet.

Well, Amarillo College Police Department recognizes that and is partaking in the National Night Out campaign tomorrow, August 2nd.

The main purpose of National Night Out, aside from just having a good time, is to help promote police-community partnerships. In other words, a chance to show that you don't only have to interact with them when you're in trouble or have called them for whatever reason it may be.

This year, Amarillo College Police Department will be hosting its own block party at the college. To be precise, it'll be in the southern half of parking lot #1 on campus from 6-9 pm.

There will be all sorts of things to be a part of, such as bouncy houses, free snow cones and hot dogs, as well as other activities and booths to check out.

They aren't the only ones hosting a National Night Out event either. Borger will be holding one the same night from 6-8 pm in downtown Borger.

Pleased To Be Here: Happiest Mugshots of Randall County

My my my! These are some happy campers.

You'd think having your mugshot taken would be far from one of your finer moments.....but these inmates prove that you can always turn that frown upside down.

Thrilled to Be There: the Smiling Mugshots of Hutchinson County

Hutchinson County has plenty of people who have committed a criminal blunder (or two). And just like any other bigger city, jail is no fun. However, some of the residents of Borger and Stinnett are believers in keeping their spirits high in the face of adversity.

Not sure what we mean?

Well....let's just say that Randall County's cheerful inmates aren't the only ones who seem happy to be arrested....While there’s nothing funny about committing a crime, these offenders in Hutchinson County certainly do know how to light up a pod with their smile :-)
