First Interview With Australian DJs Who Pranked Kate Middleton’s Nurse
Mel Greig and Michael Christian, the Australian DJs whose prank call led to the suicide of a nurse at Kate Middleton's hospital last week, recently gave an interview to 'A Current Affair' in which they regretfully explained that they never meant for anything like that to happen.
"It's not anything that anyone could have ever imagined was going to happen," said Christian. Through tears, Greig added that after she heard about what had happened, "My first question was, 'Was she a mother?'"
The duo never thought the prank would actually succeed, thinking that plenty of others would have tried something similar. "Not for a second did we expect to even speak to Kate, let alone have a conversation with anyone at the hospital", said Greig. "We wanted to be hung up on."
Greig and Christian have removed themselves from the air for now. Their station's parent company released a statement:
Chief executive officer Rhys Holleran has spoken with the presenters. They are both deeply shocked and at this time we have agreed that they not comment about the circumstances. SCA and the hosts have decided that they will not return to their radio show until further notice out of respect for what can only be described as a tragedy.
