Last year, the West Texas A&M men's basketball team fell just short of winning their regional bracket falling in heartbreaking fashion to 6-seed Black Hills St. 68-67. WTAMU actually hit a shot at the buzzer that would've been the game winner and sent them to the Elite Eight.

Unfortunately, after replay, the shot had gotten off just after the buzzer had sounded, the bucket was waved off, and down go the Buffaloes.

This season has been a completely different story. Returning nearly that entire team from last season, the Buffs are on a magical run. No buzzer-beating drama in the regional final this year as WTAMU waltzed into the Elite Eight this season.

Both seasons they were the number 1 seed in their region, and after winning matchup against North Georgia on Tuesday, they've found themselves one more step away from potentially bringing home a national title to Canyon.

Today though, they face off against a very good Minnesota St. team who many believe can win the whole thing. Minnesota St CRUSHED Ferris St 98-70 to advance to the Final Four, so the Buffs will have their hands full.

Should they make it past them, WTAMU will find themselves playing for a national championship Saturday afternoon.

A national championship is nothing new for WTAMU. They've had a very successful women's volleyball program over the years, and have also won national titles in softball, outdoor & indoor track and field. In fact, outdoor track and field won the national championship just two years ago.

Basketball has been a different story though, as neither men's nor women's has ever won a title. This would be history in the making, and the first true step in trying to elevate to a Division 1 program.
