One thing we don't have a shortage of here in Amarillo would be restaurants. We have literally every type of restaurant you can think of. Craving Thai? We've got several. Indian food? Check out It's A Punjabi Affair.

Lack of options isn't the issue, it's the cost of food. As the cost of that rises, so do the menu prices at some of your favorite places. Dinner out for two used to run around $30-40, and that was super affordable. Now, you're looking at around $50 for two.

There's a hidden little gem in Amarillo though that I just found out about, and it reminds me so much of a place I love to frequent when we go up to Elk City, OK. for baseball tournaments. A place that gives you that down home cooking, at down home prices.

Meme's D.O.C. is an old school diner located at 3700 SW 6th St that will keep your wallet a bit heavier, while also filling you up with some incredible home cooking.

This isn't some fancy restaurant where it's all bells and whistles inside. I'm talking about how those diners were back in the 50s and 60s. Simple and basic tables, old school chairs, and the food you'd expect at a diner.

A quick look at the menu shows you those diner favorites such as hamburger steak, chicken fried steak, and basic sandwiches like ham & cheese. Other things like catfish, burgers, and steaks can be found on the menu as well.

Breakfast? Of course. No diner would be complete if they didn't serve up some amazing breakfast. We're talking about those old school, simple breakfast plates. Eggs, hash browns or grits, pick a meat, and munch away.

Now for the best part. The prices while not quite like the 50s and 60s, are definitely better than the 2024 prices of things. Many of the meals on the menu range from $8.95 to $11.95, which is simply something you don't see these days.

If that's not enough, follow their Facebook page and you'll see $10 daily specials you can take advantage of. For example, yesterday (Thursday) they ran a special that was Chicken Alfredo Casserole with green beans or broccoli and your choice of soup or salad, and it was just $10.

Meme's is a hidden gem, go check it out!
