Now that we've made it through Labor Day, our focus shifts to the fall season in Amarillo. Gone are the 100+ degree days, supposedly, and those cooler temps we've all been craving are on the way, right?

Well, at least that's what we want to THINK, because while it's technically been a bit cooler, it hasn't exactly been fall-like temps as of yet.

WHAT DO THE NEXT 10 DAYS LOOK LIKE

Well, I wouldn't say it looks like fall arriving. The rest of this week (September 4-8) is predicted to have temps hanging in the mid to upper 80s, which does feel a LITTLE fall-worthy I guess. Maybe it's because we dealt with that rash of 100+ degree days.

After this weekend though, it seemingly goes backwards according to the 10-day forecast. I know, we shouldn't ever rely on that thing, but they're calling for temps in the 90s the entire week and beyond. Sorry, but that's not fall.

THE FARMER'S ALMANAC SAYS SOMETHING DIFFERENT

Now, I know a lot of people love to live by the word of the Old Farmer's Almanac. I decided to take a look at it because they DO have a tendency to get quite a bit right surprisingly. Unfortunately, what they're saying about fall is VERY different from what we're going to experience.

According to it, our average September temperature is supposed to be 67 degrees. Based on what we've got coming in the next 10 days, it looks like it really missed the mark on this one. Then again, maybe we're in for a crash in temperature in the second half of the month.

For October, it says average temps will be around 50 degrees, and we could see a rain/snow mix the week of Halloween. It's really hard to believe that right now isn't it?

WHAT ARE THE AMARILLO AVERAGES

As we look back over time, the average temperature in Amarillo for September is 82 degrees, which seems to fall more in line with what we're seeing in the forecast as opposed to the Farmer's Almanac. October should hover around 72 degrees if history repeats itself.

It seems the Farmer's Almanac either sorely misjudged what our fall was going to be like and how early it was going to come, or we're actually in for a long wait for fall to come. I'm not sure how the Farmer's Almanac thought we were dropping down to an average of 50 degrees in October, but those are December numbers on average.

IS FALL COMING EARLY

I guess it depends on what you want to believe. Unless we see some crazy shift in temperature later this month, I'm going to have to go with the idea that someone at the Farmer's Almanac got bored one night and started throwing darts at temps and writing them down.

Fall feels like it's still a ways off, so maybe don't put away those summer clothes just yet.
