We told you the other day that freezing temperatures for one part of the state is only a day or two away. Other parts of Texas could see freezing temperatures within weeks. Like it or not, cold weather will be here before we know it which leads us to this question, "when will it snow in Texas"?

Not everyone likes the snow and most probably think we are months away from the white stuff falling from the sky. But the truth is, depending on how cold fronts come in, snow may not be too far behind.

In 2022, Lubbock saw a trace amount of snowfall in on October 21st. It wasn't much, but it was enough to be registered as the "first snow" of the season.

The Farmers Almanac is already predicting possible snow east of Amarillo sometime in October and November. The average first snowfall for Amarillo is November 24. The earliest snowfall recorded was September 29th of 1984. As for Lubbock and the South Plains, the first snow could hold off until December this year according to the Farmers Almanac.

As far as the rest of Texas. The average date of the first snowfall is late December to January. But that doesn't mean it couldn't happen sooner.

While it doesn't look like any of us in Texas will be getting snow anytime soon, it's best to be prepared. We all know how fast a forecast could change. Cold fronts are moving in and who knows when a polar vortex will make its way to the Lone Star State.
