Is Fall A Good Time To Fish In Texas? You Might Be Surprised

Fall has arrived in Texas and so have freezing temperatures for parts of the state. So does that mean it's time to pack up the fishing gear? Not so fast.

Each week the Texas Parks and Wildlife Departments puts out a guide to fishing in Texas for both freshwater and saltwater locations. These reports normally come out on Thursday and they are a great resource for those wanting to fish.

Of course Texas has a lot of great places to fish. For many, it's a decision that comes down to travel time and where the good spots are to fish. Those who have been fishing their entire lives have their own favorite spots and their own tips and tricks. And for others, they just want to know where the fish are biting.

So is this time of year a good time to go fishing? The answer is yes.

Here are some reports around the state for November 2nd.

Alan Henry GOOD. Water clear; 65 degrees; 2.82 feet below pool. Crappie are good in 8-20 feet of water using minnows. Report by The Bait Shop, Post, Texas.

Brownwood GOOD. Water stained; 69-71 degrees; 8.28 feet below pool. Black bass to 5.57 pounds are good on whopper ploppers, jigs, and on crankbaits in 1-12 feet in the rock cuts, secondary points and ledges. Bait is moving into the cove pockets. Crappie are slow on brush piles and around the docks on minnows in 10-12 feet. White bass are slow to 1.06 pounds on crankbaits and small jigs. Catfish are slow to on using prepared and cut bait.

Joe Pool FAIR. Water clear; 70 degrees; 2.63 feet below pool. Fall fishing patterns are similar. The bite is picking up and fish are starting to follow the shad to shallower water. Bass are biting squarebill crankbaits, or shallow crankbaits. Crappie are biting minnows near bridge pillars. Report by Gilbert Miller, GTB Outdoors.

MeredithGOOD. Water stained; 68 degrees; 45.14 feet below pool. Bass are fair on minnows and artificials. Catfish are good on crawlers, minnows, chicken liver and frozen shad. Crappie are fair on artificial baits and minnows. White bass are excellent throughout the day on minnows, slabs, or any vertical presentations. Many limits caught using a dropshot or minnows vertically jigging.Trout are slow on powerbaits, minnows, worms, small spinners and flies. Limits of walleye are good using minnows, grubs and blade baits. Please be safe out there, watch weather reports. Best of luck on finding your next catch. Life vests save lives.
