Amarillo’s Sakura Location Is Changing — Here’s What We Know
This has been one of those whirlwind stories we’ve been following in Amarillo—the fate of Sakura on Soncy. It closed down last July. We had some warning, so we had one last chance to go by and get some great food.
Since it closed last July, there was word that the building was getting a sort of new tenant. Someone was moving in, bringing Sakura back. That was great news. We were excited until we saw the sign that went back up at 4000 S Soncy.
That sign indicated it was not going to happen.. The real estate sign went up again, not too long ago. That squashed our hopes and dreams. It didn't take long for us to get word that not all hope was lost.

Rumors and Signs: What’s Next for 4000 S Soncy?
A friend of mine, after seeing the tragic news of Hooters closing, noticed something that made a lot of us happy. The 'For Lease' sign at Sakura now said 'Leased'. No, Sakura was not coming back, but another business was rumored to be moving in that made sense for that building.
Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse: The New Tenant?
According to a social media comment, a customer recently visited Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse on 45th and learned they are moving into the former Sakura location.
We went to Tokyo and were told they'll be moving into that building! - Leticia
What This Means for Amarillo’s Dining Scene
This move makes total sense. The Sakura building is already set up for a Japanese steakhouse. It is a lot bigger than the current location they are in at 5807 SW 45th. It is just the perfect fit.
So here is to another empty building in Amarillo getting new life. This is great news for our city.
