As you take a drive around Amarillo, there is so much you notice just by paying attention. That is what I do. I try to keep up with what is going on and find out places that are newly opened and, sadly, even those that have recently closed.

The construction around our town can keep you finding new places to drive to avoid those orange cones. That is what a lot of us who frequently drive down Georgia Street have been doing for the past couple of weeks.

Every day brings a new commuting adventure as you navigate the ever-changing maze of orange cones. So avoiding Georgia Street has made me miss a recent business that has closed. I first became aware of the closure through a community question:

Does anyone know what happened to Ryan O'Neal Autos? I need to get in touch with them asap. - Love

I had not heard anything about them closing until then. So I purposely took the drive down Georgia Street to get me to their location at 4237 S Georgia. Their Google listing late last week still showed they were open.

The drive by that location proved otherwise. The lot was empty. Not a car for sale. A quick check of their Google listing this morning confirmed the worst: the 'Permanently Closed' tag has officially been added.

There hasn't been a lot out there about the closing except for a few comments that led to some insight on the matter.

They went out of business. I can have someone from there get in touch with you if needed. - Jeremy

I've heard he's in bad health. The family is trying to figure things out. - CFoshee1984

The Future of the S. Georgia Property

The empty parking lot speaks volumes. They have two different car lots on either side of them that can easily buy up the property to expand their inventory. It wouldn't be surprising to see neighbors like Charley's Autos or Bobby Duby Motors move to acquire the space to expand their own inventories.

We hate to see a business close unexpectedly like that, especially when health could have played a part in it. We wish nothing but the best for everyone involved.

Amarillo's Georgia Street and All It's Changes

The streets of Amarillo have changed a lot. Georgia Street used to be the place to buy a car. Now it has everything.
