Sometimes you see a whole lot of things that don't make sense when you are out delivering food in Amarillo. Sometimes it is the construction situation in Amarillo. Sometimes it is the mess of delivery instructions or the lack of them that the customer gives you.
The Head-Scratching Realities of Amarillo Delivery
All I know is sometimes you get a delivery, and it leaves you scratching your head. Over the weekend, that is exactly what I felt like doing. I still don't know how this happened.
I received a double delivery. I had to pick up from Five Guys and Firehouse and deliver to two different customers. Ok, no big deal. The food was ready at both pickup places with no wait, so that was nice.
A Routine Double Order With a Strange Twist
It was the drop-off that was weird. I didn't have to travel far, which was another win. The first delivery took me no time, and I had a happy customer eating food. The second drop-off was strange.
Dropping Off Food at a Closed Office on North Western
I had to drop off at a business on Western Street. When I got there, the office was closed. That is not too strange because sometimes there are employees working on the weekend. They need food too.
I was the only car in the parking lot, but maybe there was parking in the back for employees. This still could be a hungry employee. So I dropped off the food. I was hoping there was someone there waiting on a burger and fries from Five Guys.
I was in the middle of another delivery when my phone rang, and it said DoorDash. Ahh, here we go. I knew it was going to be that customer, but I wasn't expecting the outcome. She told me that the app said the food was delivered, but she didn't have any food at her door.
The Phone Call Reveal: Amarillo Meets Lubbock
I told her where I dropped it off and asked if it was her work address, figuring she might have forgotten to switch her app location back to home. She told me no, that wasn't her office, and the address she thought she ordered to didn't sound familiar at all.
I know I don't know every neighborhood in Amarillo, but this one was certainly one I have never been to. Then she, for whatever reason, mentioned Lubbock. Apparently this delivery was for a Lubbock address.
I told her I was in Amarillo. I had no idea how that happened. I told her she would have to call DoorDash and have them figure out what they did. They would have to refund her money and let her order again.
I can only hope someone found that food on Western, though odds are some poor employees just walked into a very strange Monday morning surprise.
Definitely the strangest delivery I had, and no, the nice tip she gave me was not enough for me to drive it to her actual place in Lubbock. I hope this customer finally got her food, and I hope DoorDash figured out how that even happened in the first place.
