[GALLERY] Sidewalk Masterpieces: Inside Amarillo College’s Annual “Chalk It Up” Event
One thing about Amarillo is that we have some very talented people. I am not very artistic, so I love checking out the talent that people in this community have.
Beating the Heat: Waiting for Sundown at AC
Over the weekend, Amarillo College hosted "Chalk It Up," a chance for those talented to put chalk to good use on the sidewalks of Amarillo College. I haven't been out before, but I wanted to see how talented Amarillo truly is.
I'll admit, Saturday was another scorcher in our city, so we waited until evening to head out, and while the artists had packed up, their brilliant chalkwork was still leaving its mark.

After picking up some ice cream, we headed to the Amarillo College campus for an evening stroll made even better by my four-year-old granddaughter's company.
Ice Cream, Unicorns, and My Little Pony
I got to tell her stories about some of the pictures, and she got to tell me about some as well. One of her favorite drawings was of a unicorn. She told me it was from My Little Pony. She mentioned Twilight Sparkle and some other unicorns from the show.
A Blast From the Past: 80s Movie Icons on the Pavement
When we got to the 80's themed chalkwork, I got to tell her about some of my favorites. It highlighted E.T., Casper the Friendly Ghost, Slimer, and Gizmo. She fixated on Gizmo, so I had to tell her about the 3 rules for Gizmo and about the movie Gremlins.
There was a ton of great artwork on display, and we took our time walking around to appreciate every last ounce of chalk and the immense talent that produced it. We certainly weren't the only ones with that brilliant idea, either; plenty of other families were out enjoying the masterpieces in the much more comfortable evening temperatures.
