The threat of wildfires in the Texas panhandle has been ever present. We have had multiple days recently of fire weather warnings, there are red flag warnings in effect, and today there is a controlled burn taking place. Controlled Burn Taking Place At Lake Tanglewood Today

If you smell or see smoke around Lake Tanglewood, there is a controlled burn that is taking place that started at 10 AM. The burn was announced yesterday by Randall County Fire Department.

The burn will take place from FM 1151 south along John Ways Blvd. It will go to the dam area of the lake. If you see fire in that area, there's no need to report it. There are multiple departments out there for the controlled burn.

The controlled burn today near Lake Tanglewood is all about safety. The goal with the controlled burn is to reduce the "fuels" that could lead to an uncontrolled wildfire in that area.

We've already seen reports of wildfires in the Texas panhandle this year. The Texas panhandle wind and dry conditions can be a recipe for disaster. It's important that we not only do things like this controlled burn, but everything we can do to keep from causing a wildfire.

  • No outdoor burning when there is a fire weather warning or red flag warning in effect.
