For the third year in Amarillo, Texas, civilians will have an opportunity to go toe to toe, head to head, and bike to bike with law enforcement officers. It's a competition event that is designed to cater to riders of all skill levels from all over the country. The best part is that it all goes to a great cause.

What Is The Iron Horse Shootout In Amarillo, Texas?

The Iron Horse Shootout is a competition event designed for motorcycle riders, law enforcement and civilians, of all skill levels. The event lasts for three days. This year it is held from July 18th through July 20th.

The technical term for the event is "training competition". While competing will be part of the fun, the focus is on taking riders from the experience level they're at and moving them to the next level. It gives novice riders a chance to learn from those with more experience.

According to a press release about the event, people from as far away as Canada will be coming this year to participate in the Iron Horse Shootout. Riders from all over the country will be heading into Amarillo. It's going to be a big year for the Iron Horse Shootout.

Who Does The Iron Horse Shootout Benefit?

The shootout is limited to the first 100 paid riders. The money that is raised is going to benefit the 100 Club of the Texas Panhandle. If you're unfamiliar with them, they're an organization that takes care of families of peace officers or firefighters who are injured or killed in the line of duty.

They also provide law enforcement and firefighters with life-saving equipment that they are unable to get through budgeted funds and agencies.

RANKED: America's Top 12 Best-Looking State Trooper Cruisers

Did you know that there is a brotherhood of state troopers called the American Association of State Troopers (AAST)? Their goal: PROTECT. PROVIDE. CONNECTAccording to their website the AAST was formed in 1989 when a "small group of Florida state troopers had the vision to create an association that would unite state troopers across the country and assist them by providing valuable benefits and services."

Each year the AAST releases a calendar of the best looking state trooper cruisers. Ranking is determined by their Facebook followers. It's all for a great cause too. Proceeds benefit the AAST Foundation, which provides higher education scholarships for AAST troopers' children dependents. A noble cause by any measure.
