Drink responsibly, and do not drink and drive.

I've written several times about how some of the laws in Texas are prone to make you scratch your noggin and wonder why. For some reason, it seems that a fair number of them are related to the sale and purchase of alcohol. If you're planning on consuming any beverages of the adult persuasion this New Year's, you'll want to plan ahead of the big day.

Buy Your Alcohol In Advance Of New Year's In Texas

The good news is that if you're just planning on having some beers over New Year's, you don't have to do too much out of the ordinary. However, if you're planning on going to the liquor store, or package store as they like to be called, you might be out of luck if you don't go early.

How early should you go? Try Saturday at the latest.

Will Texas Liquor Stores Be Closed On New Year's Eve?

Prepare yourself. If you're thinking about waiting until the last moment to get a bottle of your favorite libation for New Year's Eve revelry, you might want to revisit your plan.

Since New Year's Eve falls on a Sunday this year, you probably aren't going to be able to get your favorite bottle from your favorite "package store."

Also, Texas doesn't allow liquor sales on holidays like New Year's Day. So, you're out of luck there as well. What you need to do is have your shopping for libations done by Saturday at the latest. After that, you'll have to wait until January 2, 2024, to get a bottle of your favorite spirit.

Does it make a lot of sense? Not really. Is it something we have to deal with? Absolutely. So do your shopping early, and wish the cashier behind the counter a very happy new year when you do. You won't see them until Tuesday.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
