Amarillo, Texas is home to plenty of supposedly haunted places. We have everything from haunted antique malls to haunted head shops; and everything in between. Every time you turn around, you find a new haunted location; like the old York Tire building on 10th.

I'd never heard about the old York Tire building being haunted until my editor recently brought it up in a meeting. After a bit of eye rolling and some heavy sighs, I decided to dig in.

The eye rolling didn't stop.

According to some accounts, one of the things that the ghosts, spirits, entities, whatever are responsible for is being...well...a bit inconvenient. I hate when those from the other side make a mess.

Supposedly, whenever a shipment of tires would come in, those tires would be stacked nice and neat. People would come in the next day, and find the tires knocked over.

How annoying.

Others claim that tires wouldn't just be knocked over, but would be moved around. I can see that creating a problem when doing inventory.

The Ghost Of An Elevator Repair Man

According to legend, there was a death that took place in the building. As you know, that's usually a pretty good catalyst for a haunting.

The story goes that an elevator repairman met his untimely end in the building. He fell the length of the elevator shaft. I'm no scientist, but I feel its safe to assume one has very small odds of surviving such a fall.

One account of the alleged haunting goes that a man in what appeared to be an old elevator repairman outfit was walking to a break room counting change. When the person who saw this went to find out who this person was and if they needed help, the person had simply disappeared.

Do You Think The Old York Tire Building Is Haunted?

I've never been inside, and supposedly there has been at least one attempt to investigate the odd phenomena that took, or is taking, place there. Supposedly, multiple entities were found.

Even if I did believe that these stories held merit, I don't think I would be too afraid of the building. The ghosts are just a little messy, and in dire need of some refreshment. Nothing to be too afraid of.

Nowadays, York Tire no longer inhabits the building. Instead, it's home to several escape rooms near 10th and Jefferson in Amarillo.

Now, not only do you have to worry about figuring out some obscure clues in sixty minutes, but you might be interrupted by a ghost needing some change for the soda machine.

The Abandoned Herring Hotel in Amarillo, Texas

You may have passed it a million times while driving downtown, or you may be new to town. Either way, chances are you've seen the beautiful Herring Hotel. The beautiful aging brick tower sits unoccupied on 3rd and Pearce streets. The Abandoned School House Outside of Canyon, Texas

This was once the Jowell School. Built in 1901, the building was the cornerstone of the teeny tiny farming community of Jowell.

The building had been rebuilt and restored in the late '80s or 90s before vandals destroyed it in an act of arson. What remains of the Jowell School sits in a desolate part of rolling farmland between the small towns of Canyon and Happy, Texas.
