Get An Inside Perspective: Amarillo Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy
If you've ever been curious about what "behind the scenes" looks like for Amarillo Police, you might have a chance to find out coming up very soon. The Amarillo Police Department is going to be hosting another Citizen Police Academy. It's a chance for people like you and me to learn how the police work in Amarillo.
The Citizen Police Academy In Amarillo, Texas
If you're worried about tuition or fees to be a part of the Citizen Academy, don't worry. There aren't any. That doesn't mean, however, that there isn't a process to attend. You'll need to apply. If you do apply, make sure you've got the time to devote to the endeavor.
The academy is 12 weeks long. It takes place on Tuesday evenings for three hours. It goes from 6 PM to 9 PM. There are also a couple of Saturday morning sessions.
What Is Covered In The Citizen Academy
It's a little bit more involved than the trip I took to the police department as a Cub Scout. You'll be getting a look at all the different divisions and units and how they operate. Everything from the Patrol Division to SWAT.
It's an all-encompassing look behind the scenes at Amarillo Police Department.
If you're interested in more info or attending, all you need to do is reach out via email to express your interest. You can find more info on the APD Facebook page, or in the post above.
If you've got the time and are willing to make the 12-week commitment, it sounds like it could be a pretty interesting way to spend your Tuesday evenings. Who knows? You might learn something.
