It looks like winter is finally in the Texas panhandle. Today we've seen blizzard warnings and listened to winds gusting while they blow snow, ice, and rain all over. There have been cancellations and closures already announced. It's a very cold, windy, and wet start to the week.

With all the wind and precipitation, you'll want to use extra caution when traveling. There have already been reports of parts of the panhandle experiencing white-out conditions. Slow down, turn on your headlights, and don't drive distracted. This is most absolutely not the day to have your phone in arms reach while you're driving. There are even some reports stating that portions of I-40 are closed. See below.

The Code Blue Warming Station has been activated for tonight. The announcement was made earlier today. Just looking at what the high and low temps for today were forecasted to be, you knew the warming station would be open. With the wind and precipitation, it's even more important.

The National Weather Service in Amarillo is forecasting wind chills to be below zero in some areas of the panhandle. In Amarillo, we're north of zero but won't even make it to double-digits. You'll want to bundle up as much as possible and cover all exposed skin before leaving the house tomorrow.

Make sure you've got your emergency kit ready in your vehicle, just in case something were to happen while you're on the road.

There have already been some closures due to the weather in the Texas panhandle. We've got a list going that you can see here. Bookmark that list and keep checking back for updates on closures, cancelations, and delays as we get through this round of winter weather.
