Ex-US Official Faces Sentencing In Bribery Scheme
WASHINGTON (AP) — A former employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is set to be sentenced for orchestrating a massive contracting fraud.
Kerry Khan, a former program manager with the government, is scheduled for sentencing Thursday morning in federal court in Washington.
He pleaded guilty last year to his role in a bribery and kickback scheme that prosecutors say stole more than $30 million through invoices that were either bogus or inflated.
Khan used the illegal funds on luxuries including Rolex watches, high-end liquor and fancy hotel stays.
Prosecutors say they intercepted phone calls in which Khan revealed plans to travel to the Philippines to have sex with a girl he thought was 15 years old.
Prosecutors are seeking a sentence of more than 15 years.
