Did You Know This Popular Song Was Recorded In Amarillo

Search any list of songs that mention the name "Amarillo" and you will find a full list of musical artists who have mentioned or written entire songs about our flat and yellow city.

On most lists, you'll find Bob Dylan, Billy Joe Shaver, and a handful of other names. But chances are very few to none of these songs that have namedropped Amarillo have actually been recorded in Amarillo.

Well, all except for one.

The musical project by former-member of Blur, Damon Albarn, and a handful of others has been around for quite some time and has made a name for itself during their eight studio album run, currently standing at around two and a half million monthly listeners on Spotify.

On their fourth studio album, named "The Fall", much of the recording was done during a tour for Gorillaz's previous album that stretched across North America.

And of course, on October 23rd, 2010 while staying in Amarillo, Texas, Damon Albarn and founding member of the Clash, Mick Jones recorded a song that would come to be known as "Amarillo"

The song features a bleak-melancholic soundscape, featuring contemplative lyrics that describe a feeling of being lost as if you were constantly traveling a highway.

Whether or not Damon Albarn and Mick Jones got a "depressing" vibe from Amarillo and decided to write a song that reflected their feelings on the place is entirely unknown, but what can be said is that this is a pretty sweet tune.

And when you look at the numbers, it seems like almost nine million other listeners agree on how good this track is.
