Now through Monday, March 19th, the Texas Panhandle will have prime conditions to support wildfires. Officials note that we will see an increase in windy conditions along with low relative humidity values - perfect fire conditions. Unfortunately, our dry spell continues with no measurable moisture in the upcoming long term forecasts.

The Amarillo office of the National Weather Service is reminding everyone to do their part to help prevent the start and spread of wildfires:

  • Properly discard cigarettes
  • Keep vehicles off dry grass
  • Avoid activities with open flames or sparks
  • Power equipment can create sparks
  • Obey all burn bans
