If you've been to El Patron's Tex Mex restaurant, then you may have seen the slogan assuring customers that "You're the Boss".

That's the sign of someone who believes in quality customer service. And he was. Unfortunately, Ruben Gonzalez, the owner of El Patron, passed away on January 16 after a battle with cancer.

The family made the announcement on the Facebook page for El Patron on Saturday. There will be a viewing starting at 6pm at the Schooler funeral home and a memorial service will be held at 11am on Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

The memorial service is open to any and all who wish to attend.

There has been an outpouring of supportive comments and memories left on the social media pages by current and former customers of El Patron. All take care to underscore the impression Ruben's commitment to customer service left on them.

From all of us at 96.9 KissFM, Mix 94.1, 101.9 The Bull, 98.7 The Bomb, and 940 NewsTalk, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Gonzalez family on their loss. Our thoughts and support are with you in this time.

The Amarillo Restaurants That Closed Recently

It's been a tough time for local businesses. We were sad to see these restaurants go.....but maybe they'll come back! Until then, take a look at the places that closed down recently.

The Abandoned School House Outside of Canyon, Texas

This was once the Jowell School. Built in 1901, the building was the cornerstone of the teeny tiny farming community of Jowell.

The building had been rebuilt and restored in the late '80s or 90s before vandals destroyed it in an act of arson. What remains of the Jowell School sits in a desolate part of rolling farmland between the small towns of Canyon and Happy, Texas.
