The City of Amarillo is considering a property tax increase.

The commissioners met yesterday and discussed a 7.89 percent increase on taxable property.  That equals about $22 a year for the average home.  Commissioners maintain even with the increase, Amarillo will still be home to lower than average tax rates.

The new revenue would be used to accommodate ten more police officers, eight more firefighters, new equipment and cost-of-living increases for some city employees.
