Alcohol A Factor In Fatal Amarillo Train Vs. Truck Crash
Saturday at 9pm officers responded to a report of a train vs motor vehicle accident in the 600 block of North Eastern.
Witnesses report a 2002 Dodge 1500, pulling a horse trailer, attempted to drive around railroad crossing barricades and was struck by two different trains. The 38-year-old driver was from Amarillo. The only passenger in the truck was a 4-year-old boy. The boy was ejected from the truck and died at the scene.
No railroad employees were injured in the crash.
The driver was taken to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. The police have determined that alcohol was a factor in the incident. The driver's name has not been released.
