SWAT Unit Mobilized: Amarillo Authorities Respond to Intense Dome

On Tuesday, June 6th, at 10:41 pm the Amarillo Police Department responded to a domestic violence incident in the 1100 block of South Western. The call came from a 43-year-old female who told police that she had been assaulted. She also informed the APD that two children were in the residence and the suspect of the assault had access to firearms and threatened a shootout with police. The suspect was identified as 36-year-old Trey Allen Widner.

APD was able to make contact with Trey Widner and he refused to leave the home, nor would he allow the children to leave. Due to the threat of firearms and children being involved in the incident, APD called in the Amarillo Critical Incident Response Team.

Finally, after hours of deliberation, the Amarillo SWAT officers were able to take Widner into custody on Wednesday, July 7th at 3:13 am.

Widner was arrested and booked into the Potter County Detention Center, he was charged with Assault on a Family Member with a Previous Conviction and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

In situations like these, we are thankful for the response of the Amarillo Police Department.
