Amarillo’s Tough Year: Businesses That Have Closed in 2024

Amarillo is a big little city.  It sits on I-40 and it is the largest city to stop at between OKC and Albuquerque.  It is filled with tons of shopping and tons of restaurants.

Amarillo is a Great Place for Business

This is a great place to open a business because Amarillo residents and those who shop in the city do their best to support local businesses. However, with the economic struggles that every American is facing, many of our local businesses are closing. For others, it is time for retirement or health reasons, and they cannot find a buyer to take over the existing business.

Many of the businesses that have closed in Amarillo this year have been longstanding businesses that have been open for decades, one almost for 70 years.  That specific business was a jewelry business. It likely served multiple generations, with grandparents, parents, children, and grandchildren likely making purchases from it..

It's the businesses and the people who contribute to making a city great, and we are all experiencing the heartbreak of businesses closing

These are the businesses that have closed so far in Amarillo.   This doesn't even account for all the restaurants that have closed in Amarillo in the last 8 months.   There is an entirely different section for closed restaurants.

People are still opening businesses in Amarillo and the surrounding areas. As residents, we need to support as many local businesses as possible because they reinvest money into our local economy and contribute to our community. Let's show them as much love as we can.
