A day late and a dollar short, that seems to be the saying for today.  You take a few days off for a family vacation, and the news you’ve been waiting for drops the day after you leave Amarillo. That's right, as an avid Long John Silver's fan and one who has been following the new opening since the beginning, I missed the announcement of the Amarillo store's opening day.

Hopefully, this news is new to you, as it was to me. I unplugged from work for a good 7 days to relax and enjoy time with my family.  As I arrived back at work, there it was staring me in the face.

When Is Long John Silver’s Opening in Amarillo?

UPDATE: Friday, August 1, 2025.  Long John Silver's opens its doors at 10 am with all that LJS goodness you have missed. They will be giving out LJS swag while supplies last.

Splash Foods, Denis Schoenhofer, and partners James Bryan and Randy Burnett. Schoenhofer brought the beloved franchise back to Amarillo.

This is the team’s first Long John Silver’s location, and there are already plans underway for more locations.

Long John Silver's is set to open the new restaurant in Amarillo on August 1st.  That is according to our friends at KAMR. However, according to the email I received, two hours after I logged off work to start my vacation last week, from our friends at Long John Silver's:

We are extremely excited for the opening of our Amarillo location and grateful for the anticipation and support from the community. As of today, we’re working on wrapping up the landscaping and finalizing several interior features of the restaurant. As long as progress remains on schedule, we will be ready to open our doors at the end of the month.

Either way, the anticipation for this store is huge, and the remodel of the building has been fun to watch. According to rumors circulating and from previous employees who worked in that building, the plumbing was in disrepair, and it seems that the new LJS owners made fixing it a priority before opening in this location.

What to Expect on Long John Silver's Opening Day Traffic

What we do know is that unless you are planning on eating at LJS on opening day, which any good LJS fan should, you probably want to avoid that area. If you are traveling south be prepared for a line of cars backed up to Fulton, and maybe to 34th just waiting to turn into the drive of LJS.  It's safe to say, they may need police to direct traffic.

Plus, if I were the owner of Yellow City Grind, I would be charging people to park. Buy a coffee, get a parking spot. You know their lot will be packed with overflow on the LJS opening day, as well as into the Toot N Totum parking lot. Don’t forget the apartment complexes next door, but beware if you're thinking of parking there. Most of the apartment complexes in Amarillo enforce towing, and you know those towing companies like to make money towing cars. If it's posted, don't park there because the tow truck is lurking.

Why Amarillo Loves Long John Silver’s

We always want what we can't have, and now that it’s finally back, we can indulge in all our LJS favorites. Let's celebrate!  We will soon have fish, chicken, hush puppies, and crumbs to sink our teeth into once again from the beloved Long John Silver's.

This will be a great addition to all the new restaurants opening in Amarillo.
