Gone Without A Trace: Amarillo Man Disappears In New York City

People don't just vanish.

Just as matter cannot be created or destroyed, people don't just disappear into thin air. But sometimes it sure seems like it.

So where is Richard Maxwell Albright?

I have a special interest in the missing person cases of the Texas Panhandle, but it doesn't stop at the Texas state line. If someone who was part of the community vanishes--even in another state--should we not be concerned? I think we should be.

Richard Maxwell "Max" Albright was a native and long-time resident of Amarillo, Texas. He was a business editor for the Amarillo Globe-News and was heavily involved in the theater community here in town. He made a career change late in life and turned to a nursing degree he held along with his journalism degree.

Using that nursing degree, he and his wife of 23 years, Cathy Albright, moved to New York City where he worked as an anesthesia nurse at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Max and Cathy met while employed at the Globe News and by all means, the two spent their marriage absolutely devoted to each other and cherished their new life in New York.

They lived in an apartment in Jackson Heights in Queens when he vanished on October 14, 2021.

Gone Without A Trace

The 69-year-old man left his apartment shortly before noon on a Thursday to go on his daily walk. He assured his wife he would not be gone long due to pain while walking.

He can be seen in surveillance footage making a left turn around a corner, never to be seen again.

What gets to me most about Albright's disappearance are two things: how much Albright had lived through, only to mysteriously disappear; and the sheer determination his wife has shown in her search to find him.

In one of the many sources I perused regarding Albright's disappearance, Cathy stated that her husband

...has survived three open heart surgeries, malaria and a run-in with poisonous tomatoes that almost killed him. He is not the type of man to just up and leave,

Albright was on the tail end of a three week vacation and was set to return to work just two days later.

From what I gather, the general consensus of those close to Albright is that authorities have not done enough to locate the missing elderly man in the crucial days following his disappearance.

In response, his wife has taken to the trains in Queen with a public appeal for information that could help her finally know what has happened to her husband.

One Year Later: What Now?

It's been well over a year since Richard Maxwell Albright vanished. From what I understand, his wife has a gofundme dedicated to raising the money for a private investigator. You can find it HERE.

People don't just vanish. And it is my most sincere hope that we find out what happened to this former Amarillo resident in this lifetime.
