Tis the season and all of that. You would like to think that all of your items and you are safe at all times here in Amarillo. We know that is not the case. This reminder screams to the women to watch out and be prepared at all times.

Now this story happened at Market Street recently but can happen anywhere in Amarillo. Quick thinking and just the sheer determination of this Amarillo woman kept this would-be thief a bit disappointed.

He messed with the wrong woman. Tyra Bufkin was shopping at Market Street recently. She had her purse on her shoulder. She did not just leave it carelessly in her cart. For whatever reason this thief targeted her. He grabbed for the purse.

She held on tight. Luckily Tyra said, "Not today". She almost took them both to the ground. She was not going to be that woman who had her purse stolen. This thief realized that and ran off. Oh, but not before stealing a wallet that was lying in another woman's purse.

A reminder here to not leave your purse unattended. Do not leave it in the front of your basket. I know it is so convenient. You don't want your holiday season ruined by having to now replace all of your credit cards, your driver's license, or anything else that might be in there.

Luckily this story had a happy ending. Tyra and another customer who saw what was going on chased after the thief. They were screaming for security. They made a ruckus. They let them know a wallet was just stolen.

Some employees in the meat department took action too. The chase was on and the thief was caught. The woman got her wallet back. This is a reminder that this can happen anywhere in Amarillo.

Women, be aware of your surroundings. This is true even in the grocery store. This is true when you are heading out to your car. This is true at all times. Keep your personal items close to you. Hopefully, you don't have to fight to keep your stuff secure.
