Dashing in Amarillo: The Most Unusual Request I Have Had So Far
Door Dash and Uber Eats Delivery has been a new thing that I have been trying out. Finding something to keep me busy was important. Making extra money is also great at any time. I decided to give this side hustle a try.
Most deliveries are pretty easy. I just go to a restaurant and pick up the delivery. I then drop it off. I make a little money and I am on to the next order. I know from time to time I will see something unusual. I wasn't prepared for this one.
I was driving home from work and decided to open up my apps to see if I could pick up a quick order. My DoorDash was the first app to go off. I didn't have a chance to really look at the request. I just accepted it.
The pickup point was Sonic on Georgia. Ok, great that was not far from where I was. I figured I had a burger, maybe some chicken, fries and a drink to pick up. Nope, I get there and there is one item I need to get. A soft drink. I don't know if it was a Coke or a Dr. Pepper, it was sealed. All I know is I picked up just a drink. Oh, and not a Rt. 44 drink either. Just a regular large drink.
Ok, I am dropping off a drink somewhere. So I start heading to my final destination. I have no idea where I am heading. The GPS takes me to I27 and then down to Hollywood Rd. I maneuver all the road construction and closures there. I finally realize I am heading to this big building I see on the left.
That is when I saw the wolf on the building. I realized this is where the new West Plains High School is located. I have never been out that way. So I figured I was driving this drink out to a teacher there. Nope. I find where the front of the school is and I see the request to drop the drink on a shelf they have at the front of the school for deliveries. Ok, that is cool.
While I was driving my phone kept going off with messages but I wasn't going to read them while I was driving. I was more worried with safety and getting this dropped off. I walk into the school and a student was up front and asked if I was Melissa. I replied with this must be your drink. I handed it to her. She thanked me and I was off heading back to my car.
That is when my phone dinged and I got a message from DoorDash saying I just received a ten dollar tip on a past delivery. It said from my Sonic delivery. OK, I was confused. I looked back at my messages and this student had asked me if I could get to the school as fast as possible.
She said she would tip me extra if I could. She also said if I couldn't that was ok. So apparently I got there fast enough for her. So I ended up making $17 on this DoorDash from Sonic to West Plains.
This student paid over twenty dollars for one large soft drink. Not even a Rt. 44 might I add. Why? What was so important about getting this drink? Why was it worth over twenty dollars when it was all said and done.
I don't get it but I was greatly appreciative. If you have any idea what would make a student pay this much let me know. Maybe a teacher put the students on a challenge. Maybe she just was really thirsty. I know that Sonic ice is great and all. Is it worth over twenty dollars though?
