
Tragic 1975 Amarillo Teen Murder Resurfaces After Mother’s Death
Back in 1975, there was a murder of a high school student here in Amarillo that shocked the city. It was a simple case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time and a disgruntled ex-cop taking his anger out on this poor Amarillo high school student.
The life of the Moyer family changed on that April 1st day. That was when daughter, Katina Moyer, went to pick her mom up from her teaching job at Palo Duro High School. Katina was kidnapped from the family car and was never to be seen again.

Since her passing her family had to go on but they never did forget their lost family member, Katina. One family member was given Katina as a middle name in her honor. It doesn't matter how many years have passed that hole in the family dynamics still hurts.
Especially when the circumstances surrounding her death involved a horrendous crime. Her parents had to pick up and move on, but you know that it had to be tough for everyone involved.
Recently Katina's mother, Nancy Lee Gilmore Moyer Faetche, passed away. According to her obituary she left this earth on April 26, 2025.
Nancy married J. Hudson Moyer in 1954 and they had three children: Jay H. Moyer, Katina Elizabeth Moyer, and Jon Gilmore Moyer. On April 1, 1975, Katina Elizabeth Moyer was tragically killed. They resided in Amarillo, Texas for 62 years. In 2017, she married her very first boyfriend, Albert Faetche Jr. from Wharton, Texas. They resided in Brownwood, Texas.
Nancy has now been reunited with her daughter, Katina, and all of her other family who have gone before her.
Memorial service will be at 3:00 pm, Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Interment will be private in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
