Texans are blessed with a lot of great places to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors. We have several state parks, two national parks, and everything from endless deserts to beautiful beaches in the Gulf. Someone in Texas has a plan to create a trail across Texas that will let you experience all the Lone Star State has to offer.

Say Hello To The xTexas Trail!

There are several notable trails in the U.S. The Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail, and the Continental Divide Trail have been giving adventurous outdoors enthusiasts the experience of a lifetime for generations. These trails stretch a combined 8,000 miles. One man believes that it's time for Texas to have a massive trail of its own.

Once the trail is completed, it will wind through 1,500 miles of some of the most beautiful landscapes that Texas has to offer. You get everything from the bayous and beaches to mountains and deserts. The ambitious project would give thrill-seeking nature lovers a chance to take in the many landscapes that the Lone Star State calls home.

The xTexas Trail: From East Texas To Far West Texas

The plan is for the trail to begin in Orange, in East Texas. The trail will go 1,500 miles along shorelines, through rolling hills, and across the desert before it ends in El Paso. Elevations will range from sea level in the Gulf to 56,000 feet on Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in the Lone Star State.

Along the trail will be several small towns, many of them iconic. Terlingua, Marfa, and La Grange all rest along the xTexas. Many of them serve as resting places so you can get ready for the next leg of your journey. The trail can be tackled by bike, foot, and even horseback.

You can find out more about the trail by visiting this website. The hope is that the trail is ready by next spring, and I hope it is. If the trail is made official, it will instantly become a bucket list item for me. My only complaint is that it completely leaves out the Texas panhandle. I guess you can't win them all.
