Since moving to Amarillo, I've found myself wanting to participate in a yoga class. The difficulty I faced was picking which class to attend. I had a lot of hangups when it came to just popping in to random classes until something stuck. Recently, I finally got my chance.
So, what is it like to take a three hour yoga class in Amarillo? Better than expected.
How Did I Decide On Which Yoga Class In Amarillo To Take?
I didn't. A friend chose for me.
A friend of mine who knows that I'm into meditation, mindfulness, breath work, and all that stuff told me they wanted me to check out a yoga class with them. They had already purchased a ticket for me, and if I didn't want to check it out not to worry about it.
Amarillo has a ton of options when it comes to yoga. It really depends on what you're looking for. I can almost guarantee you'll find it.
What To Take With You To Yoga Class In Amarillo
For an event like the one I attended;
- yoga mat
- pillow or cushion
- bottle of water
The focus of the event was to let go of the previous year and prepare for 2023. So, there was a lot of meditation and reflection involved.
And stretching. Lots of stretching.
Stretch, Breathe, Focus, Meditate, Leave Your Ego In The Car
I'll say this. The event I attended was pretty beginner friendly, in the way that no one was judgemental and they didn't seem to mind me being the only guy in the class. I asked my friend what was going on, and they told me that the class was for men and women.
Just no other fellas decided to join the party.
The pace was quick enough that it was challenging, but I was able to keep up.
There was plenty of focus on breathing, meditation, and of course all of the stretching. I thought I had been tired at the end of a workout before; this was something on a whole different level.
Acupuncture And Yoga
After some time breathing and stretching, it came time to lay down on your mat and chill. Or so I thought. This was the acupuncture portion of the day. Yes, I was a little surprised when my forehead became the new home for an acupuncturist's tool of the trade.
I also got one on each foot between my toes. I was less worried about what they put between my toes, and more on the obscene amount of lint from my socks. My feet had gotten sweaty. It didn't hurt, but it was a little weird feeling something stuck between my eyes.
As I laid there, consciously keeping my breath slow and steady, I fell asleep. I had some wacky dream about being in the desert, and then I'm fairly sure I woke myself up snoring.
So much for being the only guy in the room and not drawing any extra attention to myself.
Afterwards came some more exercises, and then a time of reflection. All in all, it was a refreshing experience. It's one I'm looking forward to having again.
There are so many different places that offer yoga in Amarillo. It's mind blowing. A quick search on Facebook brings up a myriad of options. Find one that you think will work best for you, and give it a try.
