Will We Ever See All Trails Open At Palo Duro Canyon This Summer?
This summer has been tough for those hoping to go hiking in Palo Duro Canyon. There have been several instances of trails being closed because of the sporadic rains we've been getting. Recently, we got more rain and more closures at Palo Duro Canyon. Will we ever see all the trails fully open at Palo Duro Canyon this summer?
Recent Closings At Palo Duro Canyon
If you check Palo Duro Canyon's website, you'll see that yesterday (7/8) there was a park alert posted saying all trails were closed. The reason? Wet conditions. It feels a little odd to say that we've gotten enough rain to cause so much headache at the canyon, but here we are.

Earlier today (7/9), an update was given regarding the trails at Palo Duro Canyon and once again here we are with a partial openings list. According to the update, the trails that are currently open, or partially open, are:
- Upper Comanche
- Kiowa
- Lighthouse
- Rock Garden
- Pioneer Nature
- CCC
- Triassic
- Goodnight Peak
Will We Ever See All The Trails Fully Opened At Palo Duro Canyon Again?
It's interesting that this summer has seemed so rough on the trails at Palo Duro Canyon. We've had some storms come through, but none of them have felt like they dropped enough rain to cause so many problems. If nothing else, it's good to know that the park authorities are doing what they can to protect the trails from and for us. They're also protecting us from them. It works out nicely.
If you're planning on going to the canyon at all this summer, make checking the weather a big part of your preparation. Also, be sure to check the park's website for the latest park alerts and information.
