Way to go, Badgers. You did it. We've seen Amarillo College near the top of "best of" lists before, but this time it's you at the top.

Amarillo College isn't just good. Apparently, it's the best.

Amarillo College Receives Award, Named Top Community College In The Nation

The news hit yesterday, on 4/20. Amarillo College accepted the Aspen Institute's award for Top Community College. Badgers are officially setting the curve, so to speak.

Check out this post from Amarillo College's Facebook page to see what the celebration looked like.

That's one happy lookin' badger.

What The Heck Is An Aspen Prize?

Glad you asked, because I was in the dark too and did some digging. The Aspen Prize is awarded to community colleges across the nation for achieving excellence. They're judged on five criteria:

  • teaching and learning
  • certificate and degree completion
  • transfer and bachelor's attainment
  • workforce success
  • equity

The award is handed out every two years to the top community college in the nation.

Honestly, We Shouldn't Be Surprised

I know several people who have attended or are attending Amarillo College. An overwhelming majority of everything I've been told is positive about their experiences. The campus is actually really nice (you should see where I did my first stint in college), and has a lot to offer.

Now, to be fair, I do feel I need to mention that Amarillo College does share the award this year with another college. Their co-number one is Imperial Valley College in California. Congrats to them, and especially to Amarillo College for a job well done.

Amarillo Landmarks: Negative Yelp Reviews

Yelp can be a strange and angry place. That's what I found out recently when I decided to sort the reviews by "lowest rating" first.

I was okay with the people upset over bad service and what not. But I came across a few reviews that, for lack of a better word, left me speechless in their scathing negative reviews on some of Amarillo's most iconic places. Prepare your self for plenty of head shaking and "I dunno" shrugs.
